Job Vacancy FAQs

Answers to some Frequently Asked Questions in relation to our Current Vacancies.

Can I request flexible working arrangements as part of my application?

Yes, absolutely. At ILF Scotland, we are committed to flexible working and recognise that people work best in different ways. We encourage you to outline any flexible working arrangement you are seeking in your cover letter, including your preferred working pattern. We will consider requests openly and fairly as part of the recruitment process.

Can I apply for part time working if the role is advertised as full time?

Yes. All roles at ILF Scotland can be worked on a part time basis. If you would prefer part time hours, please clearly indicate your preferred working pattern in your cover letter so this can be considered.

What does hybrid working mean at ILF Scotland?

Hybrid working arrangements vary depending on the role. Where an advert states that one day per week is required in the Livingston office, this reflects operational needs, such as team rotas.

If you have personal or caring responsibilities, a disability, or other circumstances that may affect your ability to attend the office, we still encourage you to apply. Please outline your circumstances in your cover letter so we can give them thoughtful consideration.

If I do not meet all the essential qualification requirements, should I still apply?

Some roles, such as Assessors, require specific professional qualifications and applicants must meet these to be shortlisted.

For other roles, qualification requirements may be less prescriptive, and we encourage you to apply if you feel you have relevant skills, experience, or lived experience that would enable you to perform the role effectively.

Can disabled people apply for these roles?

Absolutely. ILF Scotland exists to support disabled people across Scotland and Northern Ireland, and we strongly encourage disabled applicants to apply. Around a third of our workforce identifies as disabled, and we are committed to inclusion, accessibility, and removing barriers wherever possible.

If you meet the essential criteria for the role, we would welcome your application.

What does the Disability Confident Scheme mean for me as a disabled applicant?

As a Disability Confident employer, if you identify as a disabled person and meet all of the essential criteria outlined in the job description, you will be guaranteed progression to the next stage of the recruitment process.

What does Care Experience mean when applying for roles?

If you are care experienced, as defined on our website, and you meet the essential criteria for the role, you will be guaranteed progression to the next stage of the recruitment process. This reflects our commitment to widening access to employment and supporting people with care experience.

What will the assessments for these roles involve?

All assessments are designed to reflect the type of work you would be expected to carry out in the role. This may include, for example, completing calculations or drafting written correspondence.

You are not expected to have prior knowledge of ILF Scotland systems or processes as full training will be provided. However, you may find it helpful to familiarise yourself with health and social care in Scotland and the welfare benefits available to disabled people.

If you require any adjustments for the assessment process, please let us know we are happy to accommodate reasonable adjustments.

If the role is home based, will a company car be provided?

No, a company car is not provided for home based roles. You will need to have access to your own transport where travel is required. However, you will be able to claim appropriate travel expenses in line with ILF Scotland’s expenses policy.

Can I submit my application directly to Independent Living Fund Scotland instead of using the s1jobs Portal?

We are asking everyone to submit their application through the s1jobs portal who are managing these recruitment campaigns on our behalf. Please ensure you upload your CV and cover letter at the same time because once you have submitted your application you will not be able to access it again.

If you do however experience any difficulties, please contact us at HR@ilf.scot

If I were successful in being appointed to a role, would I automatically be appointed to the baseline salary for the grade?

Depending on the successful candidates’ skills, knowledge and experience measured against the job description the recruiting manager would assess where it was most appropriate to offer a salary within the grade range.

I am interested in in applying of the Assessor role but do not have a degree in the areas you have highlighted, will I be considered?

To be considered for shortlisting you must meet the essential criteria as outlined in the job description therefore if you do not meet the requirements unfortunately you will not be shortlisted. I would encourage you to consider the Caseworker vacancies which do not require this requirement.

I am interested in in applying of the Assessor role, what are the degree requirements?

We are looking for candidates qualified to SCQF level 9 (or equivalent) or above in Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing or a related subject, with relevant professional registration.

Can I speak to someone about the roles being advertised?

Our job descriptions and adverts provide detailed information about each role and the skills, knowledge and experience we are looking for.

You can find helpful information about what it’s like to work with us, including our values and culture, on our Work for Us page.

Due to the high level of interest we have received, we are unable to offer telephone discussions with recruiting managers at this stage. If you would like to ask a question via email please do so using recruitment@ilf.scot.

Thank you again for your interest in joining ILF Scotland. We really value the time and effort involved in making an application and wish you every success.

I have let my nurse registration lapse; will you still consider me for the Assessor role?

As stated on the job description for the Assessor role you must have a degree level qualification or equivalent (SCQF Level 9) in Social Work, Occupational Therapy or Nursing related subject with associated professional registration.

If you do not hold this level of qualification in the related subject and have let your NMC registration lapse, you will not be able to shortlisted for this role. However, you may want to consider the Caseworker – Independent Living Fund and Caseworker – Grant Support vacancies which do not require this level of qualification.

I have applied for the Caseworker vacancy. How do I receive feedback on my application?

Thank you for making your application to work for ILF Scotland. This recruitment along with the other live vacancies are being managed by s1jobs on our behalf. They will be assessing your application against the essential criteria as specified in the job description. If you are successful in being longlisted your application will be forwarded to ILF Scotland for a further review.

If you require any feedback during the recruitment process, please contact s1jobs directly who will be happy to assist you.
