Introduction

Are you supporting disabled people to live their best lives? Understanding Independent Living Fund (ILF) Scotland funding could be transformative for the people you work with.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) provide a wealth of learning modules for those working in the social care sector in Scotland. These learning modules equip you with essential knowledge about a variety of subjects - now including one covering the Independent Living Fund.

Each module is self-contained and can be completed at your own pace. While you can take them in any order, we recommend starting with Module 1 if you’re new to ILF Scotland.

The Modules

These learning modules will equip you with essential knowledge about a vital funding stream that can help disabled people have more choice, control and flexibility in their daily lives.

Whether you’re supporting someone to apply for ILF funding, helping them manage their award, or simply want to understand the options available, these six modules will give you the confidence and knowledge to make a real difference. By investing just a few hours in this learning, you could help unlock life-changing opportunities for the people you support.

The modules consist of:

1. Introduction to ILF Scotland and the ILF Award

Learn about ILF Scotland and discover how it supports disabled people to live independently. This module provides a foundational understanding of ILF Scotland’s work and impact.

2. Eligibility for the ILF

Explore the eligibility criteria for ILF funding and understand how it works alongside local authority support to enhance independent living opportunities. This module will help you identify who might benefit from ILF funding.

3. Reopening of the ILF

Get up-to-date information about the reopening of the Independent Living Fund, including details about the target recipients, application process, and permitted use of funds. Essential learning for those supporting potential applicants.

4. ILF Scotland policies and your responsibilities

Understand the key policies that guide ILF Scotland’s work and learn about your specific responsibilities within the ILF process. This module clarifies the important role you play in supporting ILF recipients.

5. Being an ILF Award Manager

Discover what it means to be an ILF Award Manager, including eligibility for the role and its associated duties and responsibilities. Essential learning for anyone considering or currently in this important position.

6. The ILF review process and care schedule

Learn about the ILF review process and understand its crucial role in ensuring recipients continue to receive appropriate support for their independence. This module explains how reviews work and why they matter.

Each module is self-contained and can be completed at your own pace. While you can take them in any order, we recommend starting with Module 1 if you’re new to ILF Scotland.

Who Can Use the Resource?

The resource is free and available to everyone who would like to learn more about the Independent Living Fund.

However, only those who are registered with the SSSC can complete the practical exercises and have them marked. On achieving a pass mark, they will be awarded with a Badge to show they have expertise in this subject.
