Post Date: 14 May 2025

Aileen McNiven, Head of Business Services at ILF Scotland, has been named as a finalist for Family-Friendly Champion of the Year, sponsored by Arnold Clark of the Working Families Best Practice Awards.

The awards, now in their sixteenth year, celebrate employers whose stand-out cultures and working practices are leading the way in flexible and employee-friendly workplaces.

They showcase and celebrate employers who are offering flexibility for all their people and going above and beyond in their support for parents and carers.

Aileen, with colleagues, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to lead the co-design of our life friendly approach, giving choice, control and dignity to all those that work for ILF Scotland, recognising that one size does not fit all. Aileen has devoted herself to providing a comprehensive suite of support that allows colleagues to be their best in the workplace resulting in highly motivated and performing teams.

Harvey Tilley, Chief Operating Officer, ILF Scotland said:

“We are humbled to again reach the final of these awards and it is testament to ILF Scotland’s dedication to being a truly flexible and life-friendly employer. It is particularly special this year to have recognised, Aileen’s inspired leadership, pioneering nature, and her dedication to continually look out for the needs of colleagues.

Aileen’s advocacy and her ability to consistently champion, innovate and lead the way in creating a life-friendly environment has resulted in an excellent suite of supporting policies and practices. This makes a real difference to the lives of our colleagues and helps us to create an even more inclusive and supportive culture as we continue to grow and remain focussed on making independent living a reality for all disabled people in Scotland and Northern Ireland. By giving our staff choice and control, we enable them to bring their best selves to work which in turn delivers even better outcomes for disabled people.”

Jane van Zyl, Chief Executive of Working Families said:

“What a fantastic year for the Working Families Best Practice Awards – a huge congratulations to our finalists, each and every one has truly earned their spot. Once again, we have been able to select from outstanding organisations who are showing the world what is possible when employers are willing to go against the grain and lead by example. Their drive to create a more equitable, inclusive society that works for everyone is clear.

“Flexible and family-friendly working still has some way to go before we can say that we all get a fair deal. These finalists are beacons of possibility and demonstrate that a determination to find flexible solutions and a belief in putting people at the heart of organisations brings benefits for businesses, for employees and for families.”

Employers from a diverse range of sectors from across the UK have competed to catch the judges’ attention in nine categories.

The winners will be announced at an awards event at Apothecaries’ Hall on 26 June 2025.
