ILF Scotland proud to support Scottish Learning Disability Week

Post Date: 8 September 2025

From 8 to 14 September 2025, communities across Scotland will come together to celebrate people with learning disabilities — their achievements, their voices, and their right to be included.

ILF Scotland is proud to pledge its support and will be taking part in activities throughout the week to mark this important occasion.

This year’s theme, “I Am Here”, is a powerful call for visibility, inclusion, and recognition. It encourages people with learning disabilities to speak up, get involved, and be seen — not just during this week, but every day.

A significant number of ILF Scotland recipients are learning disabled. Our funding empowers individuals to develop their talents, pursue their goals, and live independent lives with choice, dignity, and control.

We invite you to explore some of their stories — real-life examples of disabled people who are thriving with the right support:

Peter Scott OBE, CEO of ILF Scotland, said:

“ILF Scotland is proud to stand alongside the Scottish Commission for People with Learning Disabilities in celebrating Learning Disability Week 2025. With around two-thirds of the people we support identifying as learning disabled, this week holds deep significance for us.

"The theme ‘I Am Here’ resonates strongly with our mission. It reflects the very essence of our work — ensuring that disabled people are seen, heard, and empowered to live full, independent lives. Our Transition Fund was created to help young disabled people take their place in the world: to be present, to participate, and to thrive in their communities. Likewise, our newly re-opened main ILF Fund supports disabled adults to overcome barriers to inclusion and live with dignity, choice, and control.

"We’re excited to engage with Learning Disability Week and its powerful campaign to raise awareness of the challenges faced by learning disabled people — and to celebrate their talents, resilience, and contributions to society. With the right support, every person has the potential to flourish. We thank SCLD for leading this important work and wish everyone involved a successful and inspiring week.”
