ILF Scotland has been awarded the ‘Best Small Employer’ award at this year’s Working Families Best Practice Awards in London.
Since its inception in July 2015, ILF Scotland has established and nurtured a family friendly flexible working culture for its staff. The organisation has instilled a number of specific flexible working practices, which are reflected in many of its policies, including the Flexitime Policy and the Flexible Working Policy.
ILF Scotland Chief Operating Officer, Harvey Tilley, commented,
“We are honoured and incredibly proud to receive this UK wide award. It is fantastic to be seen as a national leader, leading the way in creating and developing innovative, flexible working practices.
“When establishing the organisation, we decided a people-friendly culture, not even just a family friendly one, was important for staff. So while ILF Scotland offers flexibility to its working parents, it also offers any employee the right to work flexibly no matter what their individual circumstances are.
“This approach has undoubtedly led to a high level of success and efficiency in the organisation, with a motivated and happy staff team. I believe our approach is highly effective and I will always champion people friendly working!”
Sarah Jackson OBE, Chief Executive of Working Families, said:
“With a record number of entries and categories, the message from this year’s awards is loud and clear – the UK’s employers’ spirit of creativity and innovation in the work life balance space is alive and well.
“The common thread running through this year’s collection of best practice is that employers are really working to establish family friendly workplace cultures, which our research shows is key to unlocking parents’ potential. Whether it’s getting women returners back, or getting more men to take Shared Parental Leave, employer activity is as much about the culture within the organisation as it is about the policy itself.”
Winning this award is an incredible achievement for ILF Scotland and it will continue to implement and endorse family friendly working practices amongst all staff. It is also now the organisation’s sixth award win since its inception, following previous success at the Scottish Public Sector Awards in 2016, the UK Government Finance Awards in 2017 and 2018 and the Scottish Top Employers for Working Families Awards in 2017 and 2018.
