Scottish Living Wage Update 2021

Post Date: 18 May 2021

The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring that employers can pay social care workers the Scottish Living Wage. This means that if you employ Personal Assistants their new hourly rate should increase to a minimum of £9.50 from 1 April 2021.

ILF Scotland will increase your award to allow you to pay this new Scottish Living Wage for every hour of support you receive from your Personal Assistants, including for overnight hours of support.

The attached offer calculation shows you what this looks like for your individual circumstances. You must pass this increase in your award on to your Personal Assistant(s).

If you use a payroll agency, you must contact them advising them to pay your Personal Assistants £9.50 per hour with effect from 1 April 2021.

You should not use this increase for any other purpose. You are required to keep your financial records of payments as normal.

Agency Support

If you use an agency to provide your care or support and they advise you in writing of an increase to the hourly rate they charge, to enable them to pay the Scottish Living Wage, you should post / email a copy of the letter to us (using the contact details above) and we will consider this on an individual basis. Please note that we can backdate increases for a maximum of 4 weeks from the date you notify us of the increase.

This increase will not affect your care and support package

This increase will start on 1 April 2021

We will apply this increase automatically so you do not have to contact us.  If you have any further questions regarding this letter, or if your circumstances have changed, please contact your Specialist Caseworker on 0300 200 2022 or by email on enquiries@ilf.scot
