Robbie Butler - David McDonald - Deputy Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party

Robbie Butler MLA is a Unionist politician and Deputy Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), representing Lagan Valley in the Northern Ireland Assembly since May 2016.

A committed public servant, he previously worked as a butcher, prison officer, and firefighter before entering politics. He holds a degree in Leadership and Management Practice from Ulster University.

Within Stormont, Robbie serves as Chair of the Committee for Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs, and additionally acts as his party’s spokesperson on, children & young people and Mental Health.

He chairs key All‑Party Groups on Visual Impairment, Disability, and Loneliness, advocating for increased accessibility and social inclusion.

A voice for balance and equity, Robbie champions farming and rural communities, stressing the need for sustainable environmental policy that supports, rather than penalises, farmers and agri. He’s called for meaningful investment in mental health services, underlining the dangers of political instability to vulnerable groups.

A family man and foster parent, Robbie and his wife have cared for children through fostering for over 20 years.
