Marylouise's story

Belfast born Marylouise is a recipient of ILF Scotland’s Independent Living Fund.

Marylouise has cerebral palsy, a lifelong condition that affects movement and coordination. It affects all four of Marylouise’s limbs and she has limited speech.

Her sister Michelle acts as Personal Assistant (PA) to Marylouise.

“The Independent Living Fund has improved Marylouise’s quality of life greatly.”

In her spare time, Marylouise enjoys painting, drama, music and cooking. By receiving Independent Living Funding, Marylouise can employ a PA which allows her to attend all her weekly activities and hobbies.

“She is able to employ PA’s to attend her art group, drama group, music group, dance group, has travelled the world and it just would not be possible without the Independent Living Fund.

“It’s a lifeline to Marylouise because this is her independence, and this is her hobbies and her activities.

“But she just loves her art, her dance, her drama, her music and life wouldn’t be the same without them.”
