Obioma's story

37-year-old Obioma is profoundly autistic and non-verbal. He is a recipient of the Independent Living Fund (ILF).

Obioma is a very active young man who likes to keep busy all the time. Obioma loves people around him, especially his family.

“Obioma has received ILF funding for well over 15 years.

“That changed his life and the life of the family.”

The Independent Living Fund has helped Obioma to develop his talent and interests. He enjoys creating artwork on canvas and acrylic. Some of his artwork has been sold and showcased in Project Ability galleries’.

His brother and Personal Assistant, Ikenna, said, “Mum and dad have not always had the happiest of experiences when it comes to carers.

“The opportunity to employ me with the help of the Independent Living Fund has significantly helped.

“It also helped Obi to be a little bit more relaxed, and there is not so many people involved in his day to day care.”
