19-year-old Kilmarnock born Rhys receives funding from ILF Scotland.
Rhys enjoys being sociable, loves football and plays for the Ayrshire Tigers Football Club. Rhys also supports Kilmarnock Football Club and attends all their games, home and away, every weekend.
The Independent Living Fund has enabled Rhys to become more engaged with his local community. Across the week, Rhys goes swimming, plays wheelchair football, attends music festivals and is also a full-time college student studying Routes to Careers.
Rhys said: “My course will help me get a job and help me live independently.
“It’s good to make new friends, it’s good to communicate again with people and it’s good to pass your time.”
Leeanne, Rhys’s mum, believes the funding from ILF Scotland is essential to maintaining her son’s quality of life and has also had an impact on family life.
“ILF gave Rhys a lot more independence.
“He is able to go to the gym, something that he has never ever thought of to be fair.
“Through that support he attends college three days a week.
“He is also able to go out and we can split our time with other kids doing different things they want to do.”
This funding enables individuals to pay for care so that they can be supported in their homes and within their local communities.
