During this inaugural PA Week, we’re looking to highlight the benefits of being a PA, to showcase the job and what it means for disabled people and to encourage interest in Personal Assisting as a career.
So why do people enjoy being a Personal Assistant?

Different employers will need assistance with different parts of their life, at different times of the day. Finding an employer whose routine matches your own gives you a great amount of flexibility in your life.
Laura has worked as Chloe’s PA for seven years and the flexibility of the job means that she has time to do her college course as well as working.

Being a Personal Assistant is about assisting someone live an independent life (whatever that means to them). This means that you can find yourself doing something different every day.
Lucy is another of Chloe’s PAs. She wasn’t sure what to expect when she first started as one of Chloe’s PAs. But she’s come to realise that she’s there to assist Chloe live her life the way she wants. So she can be found at the garden centre with Chloe, helping with some DIY or even having an evening in the pub.

Assisting someone to live their best life feels amazing. And you can really build a bond with the person, making work feel a lot more fun.
Elaine is Joan’s PA. She says, “The most rewarding part of the job is seeing Joan happy and fulfilled. When we have a great day out, and she says it’s been the best day, it makes everything worthwhile. Knowing that I’ve helped her live the life she wants is incredibly satisfying.”
