Grants available for disabled young people

Post Date: 15 November 2022

Family Fund - the largest UK grant-giving charity for families raising a disabled or seriously ill child or young adult - is calling for families in Scotland to apply for a grant.

Grants are available for essential items such as:

  • children’s clothing
  • white goods such as a cooker, fridge or freezer
  • sensory or specialist play equipment or technology for your child
  • assistance with much needed family breaks

Families can find out more about Family Fund, and apply, by visiting the charity's grants page.

A Family Fund spokesperson said: "We’re looking for first time applicants to our grant schemes and would really appreciate your help in getting the word out across your networks to help us reach as many eligible families in Scotland as possible.

"Our Cost of Caring Report shows how hard families caring for disabled and seriously ill children have been hit by the rising cost of living. We are here to help and want to make sure families are aware of the support we can provide at this difficult time. May I ask that you help us spread the word if you can?"

Grants available

The Family Fund main grant scheme provides grants to parents or carers on a low income with disabled or seriously ill children aged 0-17. The charity can supply essential items such as children’s clothing; white goods such as a cooker, fridge or freezer; sensory or specialist play equipment or technology, and assistance with family breaks.

The Your Opportunity programme provides grants for families raising disabled young people aged 18-24 who are living at home. The programme funds a range of grants aimed at reducing the barriers faced by disabled young adults, including laptops and tablets, transport costs, vocational training, leisure and sport activities and much more.

There's more on the Your Opportunity programme on the Family Fund website.

Family Fund has also produced a leaflet (PDF) to promote its work.

The charity can also supply posters or leaflets, hold digital events, or attend in-person events to explain more about Family Fund and the grants it offers. Get in touch to find out more.
