Help for people employing Personal Assistants

Post Date: 28 October 2022

Are you a disabled person employing a Personal Assistant (PA)? Are you thinking of employing one?

A new, free course from the Glasgow Centre for Inclusive Living (GCIL) might be of interest.

The PA Employer Training session will cover things like recruitment and interviews and the responsibilities of being an employer.

The Centre will launch the new course on Thursday 8 December 2022 and Thursday 15 December 2022. Both sessions will start at 10.30 a.m. and finish at 3.30 p.m. The venue will be The Advocacy Project, 15 Carlton Court, Glasgow G5 9JP.

Lunch will be provided, along with accessible transport, where required.

A spokesperson said: “As this is a pilot, we will be looking for feedback during and after the sessions. Existing/long-term PA employers are very welcome to attend as well as individuals new to the process.

"Becoming an employer can seem very scary and a lot of work, but it doesn't need to be."

The Centre also hopes to repeat the sessions, in person and online.

To register your interest, please email: sharron@gcil.org.uk or call 0141 550 4455.

GCIL is run by disabled people for disabled people.  The organisation believes that barriers disable people, not impairments. It says: “Our self-directed support, training, housing and employment services enable disabled people to assert more control over their lives as equal citizens.”
