It was a real honour to represent ILF Scotland at this year’s Order of the Thistle Service. The event took place at the magnificent St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh.
From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated by the beauty and history of the cathedral. The service was a wonderful celebration of Scotland’s heritage. It combined centuries of tradition with a deep appreciation of service to our nation.
The day was filled with all the pomp and ceremony you would expect. The procession of the Knights and Ladies of the Order of the Thistle led the way. The soaring voices of the choir, the stirring sounds of the cathedral’s magnificent organ, and the fanfare from the trumpeters created an unforgettable atmosphere. Every element reflected the dignity and significance of the event for those involved.
I was proud to represent ILF Scotland, wearing our brand colours of green and purple, which are also my favourite. I had the fantastic opportunity to speak with a wide range of people about how we enable disabled people across Scotland to live independent lives, with choice, control and dignity. This is especially relevant to the Coming Home Fund we are now involved with.
The highlight for me was meeting so many individuals who, in different ways, dedicate themselves to serving the people of Scotland. Whether through public service, charitable work, community leadership or national organisations, there was a real sense of shared purpose. There was also a shared commitment to making a positive difference in our society.
I found these conversations both inspiring and encouraging. They reinforced the importance of working together across sectors. They also reminded me that, while our roles may differ, we are all working towards improving the lives of Scotland’s citizens.
Representing ILF Scotland at such a prestigious event was a reminder of the values that guide our work every day. Yes, it was a service steeped in tradition, but it was also about reflection and celebration of what we all do. I was proud to represent us all and the fantastic work we do. It was a celebration of service, dedication and Scotland at its very best.
