Fancy sharing your views on social care support?

The Scottish Government is carrying out group and individual consultation sessions from 6 to 17 March 2023.

It’s part of its consultation work to set up a National Care Service.

The Government wants to find out how people find, share and make sense of information on social care support. It wants to hear from unpaid carers, supported people who have used an advocate, or people with experience of social care.

To get involved, or ask questions:

Sessions in March 2023

Unpaid Carers: online session on Tuesday 7 March 2023, from 1 pm to 3 pm

The Scottish Government is looking for six to eight people for this online session. In the last two years, participants must have:

  • experience of (and can remember) supporting someone to apply for social care support
  • started providing social care support to a friend or family member

Supported People who have used an Advocate: online session on Thursday 9 March 2023, from 1pm to 3pm

Organisers are looking for six to eight people for this online session. In the past two years, participants must:

  • had support (for example, from an advocate, friend or family) to apply for social care support
  • be waiting to receive, currently receiving, or have already received social care support

One to one sessions: remote, on the phone, or in person

Organisers are looking for eight to 10 people to do individual sessions. Participants can choose a time and date that suits them between 6 and 17 March.

Ideally participants should be from:

  • North Lanarkshire
  • Glasgow City
  • Western Isles
  • Aberdeen City
  • Dumfries and Galloway
  • Dundee
  • East Renfrewshire.

Participants can either:

  • be waiting to receive, currently receiving or have previously received social care support. If they are currently receiving or have previously had social care support, the support must have started in the last two years
  • have experience of (and can remember) supporting someone through the initial stages of social care support in the last two years

Aims for the sessions

During the sessions, the Scottish Government wants to understand how participants find, share, and make sense of information on social care support, specifically:

  • how participants became aware of social care support
  • what information helped participants understand eligibility for support
  • participants' experiences of the assessment process

How the sessions will work

The sessions will be held online using Microsoft Teams.

There will be four Scottish Government staff at each session. Two staff members will facilitate the activities and discussions and the other two will take notes.  Notetakers will not record the name or identifying details of any participants.
