By Jayne Charlton, ILF Scotland People and Culture Lead
At ILF Scotland, our people are truly at the heart of everything we do. When staff feel valued, supported and empowered, they can perform at their best and make a real difference to our Recipients. Wellbeing is not an optional extra; it is a fundamental part of who we are and how we work together.
Creating a workplace where everyone can thrive is essential. We recognise wellbeing includes physical, mental, social and financial health. As a life-friendly employer, we offer a range of policies, support and initiatives to help colleagues feel their best at work and beyond. Our commitment to wellbeing is rooted in our values of compassion, inclusion and accountability. It is a shared responsibility, and everyone has a role to play in creating a positive and supportive workplace culture.
The world of work continues to evolve, bringing new opportunities and challenges. By embedding wellbeing into our culture, we aim to build resilience, foster psychological safety, and create a genuine sense of belonging. More than meeting our responsibilities as an employer, this is about living our values every day and ensuring ILF Scotland remains a great place to work.
We are proud that this continues to be recognised through industry awards. Most recently, we were shortlisted for Excellence in Flexible Working and Recruitment Campaign of the Year at the Herald & s1jobs Top Employer Awards 2026, with the winners due to be announced later this month.Earlier this year, we were also named Best for All Round Flexibility 2026 by Working Families, recognising our approach to creating a flexible and inclusive workplace.

Wellbeing in Our People Strategy
Our people are our greatest strength, which is why wellbeing is a key part of our People Strategy. Through awareness campaigns, training, and wellbeing initiatives, we are creating a workplace where wellbeing is part of everyday life. Our approach is built on respect, fairness and open conversations.
This helps us attract and retain talented people who share our values, while encouraging a supportive culture where colleagues can build resilience and lead with compassion.
Supporting wellbeing benefits everyone. It can improve engagement, strengthen relationships and create a more positive working environment.
Mental Health and Wellbeing Week 2026
Last year, we held our first ILF Scotland Mental Health and Wellbeing Week, and colleagues told us it made a real difference.
Following that success, we have expanded this year’s programme with 19 sessions covering topics such as Mental Health First Aid, menopause, boundaries and self-care. Colleagues can also get involved in activities like our four-week Steps Challenge and a Mental Health and Wellbeing Music Quiz. The week allows us to put mental health and wellbeing front and centre and encourages discussion and participation.
When our people are at their best, we are better able to support our Recipients. That is why Mental Health and Wellbeing Week is so important, not just as an annual event, but as part of our ongoing commitment to making wellbeing a fundamental part of working life at ILF Scotland.
