ILF Scotland is proud to celebrate Scottish Learning Disability Week 2026. This year’s theme, “I Am Here…To Be Seen”, is a powerful call for inclusion and visibility within society, and is closely aligned to the work of our organisation.
Scottish Learning Disability week reminds us of both the barriers that people with learning disabilities continue to face, and the incredible contributions people make to their families, communities and wider society.
ILF Scotland funding provides opportunities for disabled people, including people with learning disabilities, to live independently, with choice, control and dignity. It enables Recipients to connect with family and friends and achieve the things that matter to them. To be involved, to be included, to be seen.
This summer, we launched the new ILF Scotland Coming Home Fund, to help people with learning disabilities and complex support needs leave hospitals, or inappropriate out of area placements, and move back to their communities. Everyone has the right to live independently, and the Coming Home Fund will be central to helping make this a reality for people with learning disabilities and complex support needs.

“This year’s theme, ‘I Am Here…To Be Seen’, is a powerful reminder that being seen means more than being visible. It means everyone being recognised, valued and included in the community where they belong.
“For many people with learning disabilities, being seen means having the opportunity to live an ordinary life, develop and maintain relationships, pursue ambitions and be part of the communities that matter to them.
“This is why the launch of the Coming Home Fund is so important. The Fund will help people with learning disabilities and complex support needs leave hospital or inappropriate out of area placements and return to their communities, closer to family, friends and the support networks that matter most.
“Alongside this, we continue to support disabled people through our re-opened Independent Living Fund and Transition Fund, enabling them to overcome barriers, build confidence, pursue opportunities and live with greater choice and control.
“The right support can be life-changing. It helps ensure people are not only seen, but can thrive, contribute and live the life they choose.
“We thank SCLD for its continued leadership and look forward to supporting and celebrating Scottish Learning Disability Week 2026."
