Due to the unprecedented demand on the Transition Fund, we made the difficult decision to restrict all new grants to first time applicants for the foreseeable future. We implemented this change on 1 January 2024.
This means that if you previously received a full Transition Fund grant or you have a Transition Fund grant currently in payment, unfortunately, you cannot apply again. We will review this during 2025 to 2026.
The current processing time for a Transition Fund application is 20 weeks. We process all applications in date order from when we receive them. Please be assured that we will deal with your application as soon as possible.
If you currently receive social work funding in excess of £800 per week, you may be able to apply to the re-opened Independent Living Fund for ongoing social care assistance. If your application is successful, you can apply for a one-off grant at the same time, as part of that process instead of applying separately to the Transition Fund.
We can support you to try new activities and experiences that will help you:

The ILF Scotland Transition Fund will always try to process your application as quickly as possible. To help us to do this, please ensure you do the following when submitting your application:
If you require the funds for a specific date then please submit your application at least 19 weeks before the funds are required. This will allow us to process your application and pay the funds, helping you start your chosen activity on time. If you apply any later it is unlikely that the funds will be available when you need them.
If you need more information or help with your application, please give us a call on 0300 200 2022 or email: enquiries@ILF.scot.
